Hans Andersen’s brilliant story relates how two rogues pretending to be weavers approached a foolish Emperor saying that they could create the most beautiful garments ever made in the world. So they were hired to weave the Emperor some new clothes.

The rogues made gestures and pretended to weave with pretend thread on empty looms. They told everyone who visited them that the material was magical – it could be seen by all apart from those who were foolish or unfit for their office. Now of course no-one wanted to admit to either being a fool or unfit for his or her office therefore everyone remarked how beautiful the cloth was. What marvellous colours, magnificent shades of yellow and red, green and blue – and even how as you looked at the garments the colours changed. No-one had seen anything so beautiful before. The more people said it was beautiful the more lavish the claims became. Even the Emperor was unable to deny the amazing beauty of the fabric.

Now when the clothes were finished the Emperor held a procession through his Kingdom and paraded naked believing that in fact he was wearing his new clothes and that everyone could see them apart from him.

But of course an innocent child looking at the emperor exclaimed “But the Emperor has nothing on at all” and all the people realised their folly. But the Emperor unable to stop was forced to parade naked before all his people and had no choice but to carry on head held high.

Now it seems to me that an awful lot of Search engine optimisation (SEO) and SEO claims are a little like the Emperors new clothes.

If you have a poor website with very little content of relevance then all the SEO in the world will not make it good.

The innocent visitor will not be taken in by all the hype – they will instantly see that the website has nothing in it at all.

Start with the information of your site – by analysing it to ensure that the site is well put together and that you have some sort of information hierarchy. I recently reviewed a site where half of the screen area of each page was taken up by an image – it is off putting – what is the motivation to scroll? Even if the copy is good I would suggest that this site is wearing a different set of clothes from the site that has nothing in it but loads of SEO. These clothes rather than enhancing the body obscure it.

If you want to produce a website that is worthy of your company, then you are going to need to have some sort of information analysis process in place. A web brochure on its own is unlikely to sell very much at all these days.

If you want your site to be more than the Emperors new clothes then you need to take it seriously and build a brilliant site with good design and good content.

Whenever I come across an interesting topic which I think my readers will find useful, I list them down.
2)    Don’t hesitate to refine your list
Based on what you find when researching your topics, you may find that some topics are not very easy to cover. If a topic is difficult to write about, you should not hesitate to replace the topic with something that is easier to research and write about. Sometimes the topic may remain the same however you may wish to cover it from a different angle. In either case, your list of article topics is not definite and should be changed if ongoing research requires.
3)    Expand you content in steps
Whenever you find some spare time, you should visit your list and expand the content. The content I publish is seldom written in a single step. I often expand my list by including notes or bullet points of information first. I can do this for multiple articles simultaneously. This also helps me by allowing me to write content for multiple articles as the same time.
4)    Write multiple article simultaneously
As I have mentioned above, I often write multiple articles at the same time. If you maintain an active list of articles to write, then this is easily possible. It is much easier to manage a list if you are expanding content on an ad-hoc basis. It may appear initially that doing this will take longer to publish an article. In practice however I have found this approach to work better that writing one article at a time. I spend a lot of time on the internetand read many blogs and forums every day. Whenever I come across information that is relevant to one of the content topics in my list, I make it a point to note it down. This way content for my articles is able to expand even when I am not explicitly working on my articles.
5)    You don’t have to write an article in the same day.
My content publishing strategy involves publishing new content on a daily basis. This however does not imply that an article has to be completed the same day. Actively covering multiple articles at the same time also offers the flexibility to spend more than a day on certain articles without reducing the frequency at which you publish content.
6)    Use bullet points
Bullet points are effective while taking notes during research as well as in completed articles. I often start my research by writing short bullet points of viewpoints I intend to cover in an article. This saves me time and allows me complete my research faster. I can do this for multiple articles simultaneously. I then go back to my draft and expand the points as required.
7)     Always review your content before you publish
The importance of revising your content may seem obvious but I have listed it down to reinforce its importance. At the end of the day, quality of the content you publish is more important than the quantity. I always revisit all new content I create in order to review and find ways to improve its flow. You don’t have to spend hours on it. A quick glance with a fresh mind is enough to improve its quality.
8)    Automate your submission
Last but not the least; you should spend more time to write articles than get caught up in the publishing process. Publishing content on your website or blog is easy. However in order to maximise the benefits, you should also publish your articles on various article directories and content websites. Installation and deployment is similar to every plugin that’s out there, but there is a catch: by installing this plugin you gain access to a wide variety of features that cannot be included in a stand alone plugin. 123ContactForm is an online contact form generator that made this plugin so that every Wordpress user can access a wide variety of templates and advanced features like field validation, multiple or custom recipients, messages archive, reference id, payment integration with Paypal and Google Checkout.

No matter what plugin you are using, just make sure it’s configured corectly and test it by filling the contact form yourself.
